Just before I explain the basics of email marketing, I think we should also discuss why I strongly believe in this kind of marketing. If you build an email list, then you will have people who you can market to over and over again and not have to pay for each visit to the URL that you are trying to get traffic to and you can also bring traffic back to your blog by alerting your subscribers to your latest blog posts. In other words, it removes your dependence on third parties who you have to pay for their services and therefore gives you a much better chance of being profitable by drastically reducing your overheads. What is better - having to pay for every single click you get or getting your traffic for the price of a monthly auto responder charge? Your greatest aim is to build as big a list as you possibly can, because the amount of money you can make is directly proportional to the amount of subscribers on your list. It is generally accepted amongst email marketers that for every subscriber on your list, you will make $1 each month from them. So if you have a list with 100000 subscribers on it then you could reasonably expect to make $100000 per month. I am not saying you will be guaranteed to make this much money but you could reasonably expect to.
Tools you will need
You will need a 'squeeze page' - this is a web page that exists solely to capture names and email addresses and you can also use some kind of opt-in form or pop-up on your blog (I am currently using pop-up domination). You can build your squeeze page with 90secondsqueezepage.com and it not only makes very nice looking squeeze pages - it is also free! The best thing to do with a squeeze page is to offer some kind of free report or free eBook in order to entice them to enter their name and email address. Another little trick I have for you with regards to this is that you do not even have to write your own eBook or free report, you can just use a free PLR one! PLR means 'private label rights' which basically means you have the rights to do whatever you want with it. Or if you have some money to invest, you can outsource the creation of your 'bribe'. A great place to look for people to do your outsourcing is warriorforum.com. You will also need an auto responder - the best one is 'AWeber'. This is a service that will send an automated message to the email address that was entered into the squeeze page that tells people to confirm their subscription, this is called a 'double opt in' and helps to protect from spam complaints.
Getting traffic
So how do you get traffic to your squeeze page? - Solo ads! They are the best method of getting traffic for this kind of endeavour. In case you are wondering what a solo ad is, it is just when you pay someone to send an email to the list they already own. The main reason why it's recommended over the other methods is because it is a very fast way to build a list although it is not free. Just head over to soloaddirectory.com to look for a solo ad seller who you want to do business with. Some of the providers will require you to write your own email 'swipe', which is just the content of an email whereas other providers will write it for you. I recommend that you take the 'written for you' option if it is available if you are a beginner for obvious reasons. The typical cost of solo ads is 100 clicks for $40 - no one can guarantee opt-ins but solo ads are regarded as a high quality traffic source.
Connect your tools
The last thing that you will need to do is hook up your auto responder to your squeeze page using the special code that you get from AWeber after you have set up your account. It is very easy to create this code because AWeber guides you through it. The purpose of this code is to direct the person who subscribed to the 'thank you' page where you will tell him or her how much you appreciate them taking the time to subscribe and also give them the link to get the free report or eBook you offered them. You can actually see an example of this thank you page as well as get a better understanding of this process by subscribing to my blog!
