The List Building Obsession! Why If You Aren't Obsessed With Building Your List You Need to Be Fast!

If you don't have a list, you need one! I'm talking about a hardcore, old school Email List of people to correspond with via Email! Twitter followers and Facebook fans isn't enough and simply isn't the same as an old school email list. Maybe you have people on your list, but that is simply all they are... people on the list that just sit there and never become "active people on your list." I've spent a pretty significant amount of time on Twitter the past few months and I think I've compiled a following of about 8,000 plus followers which might look impressive, but if only 8 of those 8,000 followers are actively engaged in areas that equate to income, all it really is - is an impressive large number and that is IT!

My obsession has since become building a list of people that are engaged, excited and thrilled about being connected to me because of what I have to offer and because of my individual voice. Having people that opted in "just because" doesn't really get me excited and while it represents growth in the number of people on the list, it doesn't necessarily equate to growth in terms of results. Results, effectiveness and quality are what we should ultimately be after when it comes to building a list.

How Exactly Do You Go About Building an Effective List?

It's no easy task that is for sure and it is a never ending task. If it were simple, everyone would have a hefty list and we'd all be ridiculously rich! At the same time, it is actually pretty easy and the difficult part is being consistent and following up! So here are some basic how to tips and you're in business baby!

Give, give, give. Pause for a minute and think about what it is that you do and what it is that you are good at? I have a really good friend who is a GREAT cook and loves the cooking network and collecting and compiling recipes. She even shares her secrets on Pinterest! She could literally start blogging today, add a subscribe feature to her Facebook and Pinterest account and GIVE away her delectable recipe secrets in exchange for an email address! She doesn't realize that her passion could earn her a fortune in the long run based on the simple fact that there are millions of people on the planet that are interested in cooking and in new recipes. Hope she reads this post! Give consistently. Give away valuable content on a regular basis - daily if at all possible. You have to constantly show up! There are millions of people online daily but they all come online at different times of the week and some only a few times a week. The more that you are giving away, especially daily, the more likely that someone new is to discover you and opt-in to your email list. Stay in touch with your list! Once you begin to capture people and compile your list, you must now stay in touch! Continue to provide value directly into their email boxes. Provide multiple means of capturing people. If you have a blog or website, there should be multiple places for people to opt in! You never know how your content will reach people and so there should be multiple options for the opt-in. Incorporate subscribe features into your email signature, Facebook account, your Twitter account, your YouTube account... whenever and where ever possible. Be on purpose with building your list.

There are tons of others ways to build your list, but these are some pretty basic and inexpensive ways that anyone can easily implement quick fast and in a hurry. You've probably heard that "the money is in the list" and while this is partially true, remember to that the money is in an effective list as well as in your ability to follow up!
